Lake Michigan College is accepting nominations for its Spirit of MLK Awards and artistic works that will be presented during its week-long celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January 2022.

BENTON HARBOR – Lake Michigan College is seeking nominations for its “Spirit of MLK Spotlight” honors and original artwork submissions inspired by Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. for MLK Week-wide Celebration. community, scheduled for January 17-21.

Submissions from individuals and organizations must embody the love and spirit of brotherhood exemplified by King in advancing or promoting social justice in Berrien, Cass or Van Buren counties.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebration became a virtual week-long event last year.

MLK Celebration Week 2022 will build on that momentum with in-person and virtual events, including artistic reflections, performances, panel discussions, speakers, trivia and more, under the theme “I have a dream 2022: the fierce urgency of Now. “

Applicants are accepted in three categories: students and individuals aged 21 and under, 22 and over, and organizations. The winners will be recognized at a virtual event on January 17th.

Individuals and organizations can introduce themselves. Multiple applications are also accepted.

All applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on November 30.

LMC and the MLK Celebration Committee have also appealed to all artists, dancers, actors, musicians and writers to submit original artwork inspired by the theme “The Fierce Urgency of the Present” and the idea of ​​this to what would “I Have a Dream” look like in 2022.

The artistic works will be displayed in a virtual gallery in January, with selected pieces showcased in a community-wide celebration the week of January 17-21.
